Archaeologist's Extradition: A Diplomatic Tug-of-War

A Warsaw court has decided to extradite noted Russian archaeologist Alexander B. to Ukraine, following accusations of his involvement in unauthorized digs and the looting of historical artifacts in Crimea, as reported by his legal representative.

The arrest request, made by Ukrainian authorities in December, incited a strong reaction from Moscow. Russia labeled Poland's arrest as 'legal tyranny', even summoning the Polish ambassador in January to demand Alexander B.'s release.

Alexander B., associated with the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, is charged with leading illicit excavations at Myrmekion, causing damages worth 200 million hryvnias. His team's alleged theft of rare coins adds complexity, as diplomatic tensions continue over Crimea's contentious status.
