In the midst of ongoing Israeli bombardment, France's special envoy for Lebanon has declared it unreasonable to expect the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah. The envoy, Jean-Yves Le Drian, emphasized that a negotiated resolution is the only viable path forward to address the crisis.
Le Drian, speaking to France Info radio, highlighted Israel's historical occupation of Lebanon and its past failures to dismantle Hezbollah’s military power. He posited that such a task cannot be accomplished by Lebanon in mere days, especially during active bombardment.
The envoy's statements underscore a call for diplomatic negotiations as the feasible strategy towards resolving the enduring conflict, cautioning against unrealistic expectations from Lebanon under current military pressures.
