In a move to enhance border security, a parliamentary panel has urged the fast-tracking of drone and counter-drone system acquisition, emphasizing the importance of indigenous technology. Chaired by BJP MP Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs made these recommendations in its latest Demands for Grants report.

The report highlights concerns over the increased use of drones for surveillance and smuggling. The panel advocates prioritizing indigenous solutions and developing integrated command-and-control mechanisms to ensure real-time surveillance and operational response. Recommendations included improved training for handling UAVs and addressing procurement delays due to technical complexities.

Apart from technological enhancements, the panel also pointed to shortcomings in housing provisions for Central Armed Police Forces personnel, with current facilities significantly below sanctioned capacity. They called for a time-bound increase in dwelling units, particularly for those in high-risk operations, to bridge the existing housing gap.
