Round-the-Clock Control Room: Assam's Curb on Black Money in Elections

The Income Tax department has launched a 24/7 control room in Assam aimed at deterring the use of black money in the upcoming Assembly elections, according to an official statement made on Tuesday. Citizens have been called to report any suspicious activities linked to electoral malpractice.

Set up to assist the Election Commission, the control room is part of broader efforts to curb electoral malpractice during elections scheduled for April 9. Counting of votes will follow on May 4. The office will ensure a vigilant watch on unaccounted cash, bullion, and other valuables potentially used for electoral purposes.

The unit operates from the Aayakar Bhawan in Guwahati and is accessible around the clock via mobile, landline, and email for reporting credible tips. Importantly, informants can expect their identities to remain confidential, with an emphasis on the credibility and actionability of the shared information.
