Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention to unlock Rs 3,112 crore in pending central government dues. The funds are crucial to ensure the completion of persistent water projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state.
Stalin addressed the issue through a letter to Modi, highlighting the Ministry of Jal Shakti's indication that central assistance could not be extended to the Hogenekkal Phase-III Combined Water Supply Scheme. This comes as a significant concern even after project approval received in June 2023.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti's State Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee had approved the scheme on June 15, 2023, with a total budget of Rs 8,428 crore, of which Rs 2,283 crore was earmarked as the central government’s share.
