The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to two individuals accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta extended relief to Pawan Bishnoi, an associate of Lawrence Bishnoi, and Jagtar Singh, a neighbor allegedly involved in the crime.
Moosewala, a popular singer, was shot dead in May 2022 in Mansa, Punjab. Police attribute the shooting to the Bishnoi gang, with Canadian gangster Goldy Brar claiming responsibility. The accused challenged the Punjab and Haryana High Court's previous bail denial, amid unfinished witness testimonies.
The court expressed concerns about safety in jail amidst trial proceedings. Questions arose on the use of mobile phones by inmates, implicating potential prison staff involvement. The prosecution resisted bail, but ultimately, bail was granted while inquiries into prison operations continue.
