The impending hearing on the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah mosque dispute at the Allahabad High Court faced a delay on Thursday. The session was postponed due to the absence of the concerned bench, leaving the case unresolved until the next scheduled date on March 28.
Justice Avnish Saxena will oversee this contentious case in which the Hindu side has filed 18 suits seeking to reclaim land allegedly occupied by the Shahi Idgah mosque. The core of the petition demands the removal of the mosque's structure, restoration of the temple, and a permanent injunction to ensure the land's sanctity.
Earlier, on August 1, 2024, the high court had upheld the Hindu worshippers' right to file the suits, deeming them maintainable against challenges from the Muslim side. The case underscores historical religious tensions stemming from claims that the Mughal-era mosque was erected after a temple on Lord Krishna's birthplace was demolished.
