Lebanon's Displacement Crisis: Thousands Flee Amid Intensifying Conflict

Lebanon is facing a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented scale, as over 667,000 people are now registered as displaced, according to the UN refugee agency. The sharp increase of 100,000 people in just one day reflects the widespread upheaval caused by a broader Middle Eastern conflict.

The situation escalated after militant group Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel earlier this month, effectively bringing Lebanon into the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. The resultant heavy bombardment across Lebanon has exacerbated the dire situation faced by its citizens.

As government-designated shelters house about 120,000 people, countless others struggle to find temporary accommodation. UNHCR representative in Lebanon, Karolina Lindholm Billing, describes scenes of people sleeping in vehicles or on sidewalks, a stark indicator of the acute displacement crisis.
