In a decisive move, Pakistan's law enforcement agencies intercepted and neutralized a planned terrorist attack in Punjab on Sunday night. Four militants associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were shot dead in an exchange of fire with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab Police.
The incident occurred in Dera Ghazi Khan district, roughly 400 km from Lahore, where an intelligence-based operation preemptively targeted the militants. The CTD had received credible information about plans to attack police checkpoints and other government installations in the area.
While four terrorists were killed, eleven others managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The CTD recovered weapons and explosives from the site and have launched a search operation to detain the remaining suspects. Efforts to identify the neutralized terrorists are currently underway.
