Operation Numkhor: Unveiling the Bhutan Car Smuggling Racket
Five individuals from West Bengal and Assam were arrested for smuggling luxury cars from Bhutan into India. The Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate has arrested five individuals in West Bengal and Assam for their alleged involvement in smuggling luxury cars from Bhutan, officials revealed on Saturday.
An investigation uncovered that these vehicles, including both foreign and Indian-made cars, were imported into India with forged documents, circumventing customs duties.
The operation, dubbed 'Operation Numkhor,' was launched in response to the illegal import of high-end SUVs that were fraudulently re-registered and sold to unsuspecting buyers as legally imported cars.
