In a significant breakthrough, local law enforcement dismantled a honey-trap syndicate, apprehending a 37-year-old woman on charges of extortion and intimidation. The arrest occurred Saturday morning, following a detailed complaint from victim Manish Gangwar.
Officials revealed that the accused, identified as Pooja Sharma, initially extorted Rs 10 lakh from Gangwar by forging a close personal bond before launching a campaign of blackmail against him. Inspector Pramod Kumar, associated with the Prem Nagar police station, noted that Sharma recently escalated her demands, seeking an additional Rs 12 lakh under the threat of fabricating a rape complaint.
The operation culminated in Sharma's arrest at Veer Savarkar Nagar. During interrogation, she admitted to the scheme, attributing her actions to financial pressures stemming from a marital dispute. Authorities have recovered a mobile phone from Sharma and are pursuing further investigations to locate her accomplices.
