In Manipur's Ukhrul district, a fresh outbreak of gunfire has been reported in the Litan Sareikhong area, heightening tensions among local communities. According to Manipur Police, the incident involved alleged firing by Tangkhul Naga village volunteers, causing panic and fear among the residents.
The conflict originated from an alleged assault on a member of the Tangkhul Naga community, resulting in escalating tensions despite attempts at reconciliation. Prohibitory orders were enforced, and several homes were set ablaze amid reports of clashes between tribal groups. Public transportation along the Imphal-Ukhrul road has come to a standstill due to safety concerns.
Maintaining security and peace, Central and state forces, including BSF and CRPF, have been deployed strategically in the region. With the situation slightly stabilizing, the state government lifted a five-day Internet suspension. Authorities are urging for calm and mutual understanding to prevent further violence.
