The National Mediation Competition 2026, hosted by Jamia Millia Islamia, concluded its three-day event with participation from 24 esteemed law schools and institutes across the nation.
Inaugurated by Supreme Court Judge N Kotiswar Singh, the event aimed to cultivate crucial negotiation and problem-solving skills through simulated mediation sessions. The initiative seeks to advance alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in light of the challenges faced by India's judicial system.
Addressing the participants, Justice Singh underscored the pressing need for mediation, citing that the Indian courts currently face over 4.8 crore pending cases as per the National Judicial Data Grid. Mediation emerges as a viable solution to this backlog and is deeply rooted in the traditions of Indian society, observed Singh.
