A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been submitted to the Supreme Court, calling for the installation of warning display boards at police stations, court complexes, and public offices. These boards would notify the public of penalties for lodging false complaints or providing fabricated evidence.
The PIL, presented by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, highlights that false complaints and fabricated charges pose significant threats to the Right to Life, Liberty, and Dignity, as well as the Rule of Law. The petition asserts that although Chapter XIV of the BNS 2023 includes measures to counter these issues, there has been a lack of adequate action by both the Center and the States.
The petition further requests the court to mandate an undertaking or affidavit affirming the truthfulness of statements, evidence, and charges by complainants, to mitigate the occurrence of false complaints and frivolous cases.
