A major smuggling operation involving over 6.5 kg of heroin was intercepted on Saturday along the International Border in the R S Pura sector. The narcotics, valued at more than Rs 40 crore, were seized by a joint force of the 165th battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police during an operation in Nai Basti Karotana village, Baspur.

The officials acted on information pointing to a drone believed to have dropped the contraband from across the border. Two packets, containing a total of 6.582 kg of heroin, were found near the border and subsequently seized. Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and continue to investigate to determine the source and planned destination of the drugs.

The police emphasize the importance of citizen cooperation, especially from those living near the border, in reporting illegal drug activities. This seizure follows a related case where two individuals were arrested for allegedly using a drone to smuggle heroin from Pakistan into the Kathua district.
