Karnataka Assembly Demands Reinstatement of MGNREGA Amidst Political Clash

The Karnataka Assembly made headlines by passing a resolution urging the central government to revoke the VB-G RAM G Act and reinstate the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). This move was marked by a walkout from the opposition BJP and its ally JD(S), citing concerns over the new legislation's impact on federalism and rural employment.

The resolution, spearheaded by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was sharply opposed by BJP leader R Ashoka, who defended the VB-G RAM G Act. The opposition also called for the resignation of Excise Minister R B Timmapur over corruption allegations. The political tension escalated with BJP staging an overnight protest within the Assembly premises.

Amid these developments, Speaker U T Khader adjourned the House sine die post-resolution. Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar voiced strong support for MGNREGA, emphasizing its transformative effects on rural job creation and asset building. Meanwhile, expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal backed the VB-G RAM G Act, highlighting the ongoing division within political lines.
