A Chinese man has been detained for allegedly living near the residence of the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala without a valid Indian visa, local police announced on Tuesday. The individual, identified as Lu Wennian from Sichuan, China, had been in the country for over four months.

The security wing of the police flagged concerns after Wennian showed up at the Kangra superintendent of police (SP) office, unable to speak Hindi or English, communicating only in Chinese. An investigation was promptly launched, revealing he held only a Nepal tourist visa. Lu Wennian's unauthorized stay has been classified as a violation under Indian immigration laws.

Kangra SP Ashok Ratan confirmed a legal case has been filed, and the suspect is in police custody. Further inquiries are being made to ascertain how he crossed into India and managed to evade detection for such an extended period.
