The ruling Congress in Karnataka has raised objections over a District Commissioner holding a saffron flag during a religious procession. They demand that action be taken, contending it violates the principles of secularism dictated by the Constitution.
The issue arose when T K Swaroopa was seen with an RSS flag during the Paryaya Procession, leading to a formal complaint by the District Congress Committee's Legal and Human Rights Cell to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The complaint describes her actions as contrary to the service rules of a government officer.
Swaroopa maintains her stance, insisting her participation was strictly part of her official duties as the Administrator of Udupi City Council, devoid of any political intentions. The event marked the ceremonial handover of control of the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple.
