In a significant ruling, the Delhi High Court on Monday refused to suspend the 10-year sentence given to expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Sengar's conviction stems from the custodial death of the Unnao rape survivor's father.
Justice Ravinder Dudeja stated that there were no sufficient grounds to grant relief, dismissing the application for suspension of the sentence. Despite acknowledging Sengar's prolonged incarceration, the court noted that delays due to multiple appeals did not warrant leniency.
The court has scheduled a hearing for February 3, stressing the importance of proceeding expeditiously. Sengar's case is part of a larger legal battle, with pending appeals regarding his life sentence in the main rape case.
