RAF: The New Vanguard in Disaster Management
The Rapid Action Force (RAF), the riot-control unit of the CRPF, will now engage in disaster relief and rescue operations. Following directives from the Union home ministry and NDMA, about 340 troops in 14 teams are prepared for disaster response, joining the efforts of the NDRF across the nation.

In a strategic shift, the Rapid Action Force (RAF), primarily known for its riot-control operations, is expanding its role to include disaster relief and rescue activities.
Officials have announced that more than a dozen specialized teams, comprising about 340 troops drawn from seven battalions, are ready for deployment in disaster-prone areas across the country.
This move comes under the directives of the Union home ministry and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Trained alongside the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), these teams stand ready for both natural and man-made emergencies.
The blue-uniformed RAF teams are set to work closely with NDMA guidance, reinforcing India’s disaster management framework.
