In a notable legal development, a Thane court has convicted three Bangladeshi nationals for illegally residing in India. The individuals were sentenced to the duration of their stay in jail after their apprehension in January.
Presiding over the case, Additional Sessions Judge AS Bhagwat delivered the verdict on October 30, which was subsequently released to the public on Monday. The accused, identified as Mohamad Babul Shamshuddin Mulla, Mohamad Tuhin Mohamad Mijanul Mulla, and Rana Abdul Malik Shaikh, were found guilty under relevant statutes including the Passport (Entry into India) Rules and the Foreigners Order.
Hailing from the Nadain district in Bangladesh, the trio was detained by Shil Daighar police from the Uttarshiv Naka in Padale area of Thane on January 26. With charges finalized on October 30, all three pleaded guilty, requesting leniency in their sentencing. Recognizing their over-nine-month detention, the court opted for a sentence corresponding to their time served, demonstrating judicial leniency.
