Court Overrules Daily Reporting Order for U.S. Border Official

A U.S. court canceled a Chicago judge’s order for a border official to report daily on immigration enforcement actions. The decision stemmed from an appeal against Judge Sara Ellis's directive requiring Gregory Bovino to account for his agents' activities amidst protests and alleged brutality during Trump's intensified immigration efforts.

A U.S. court has set aside a Chicago judge’s directive that demanded a senior U.S. border official report on a daily basis regarding his agents' activities tied to the Trump administration’s immigration measures in the city.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis, stating that she overstepped by requiring U.S. Customs and Border Protection commander Gregory Bovino to answer daily questions about agent activities involving protesters. The court determined that Ellis took on an inappropriate supervisory role.

Under the controversial “Operation Midway Blitz,” led by Bovino, federal agents have faced criticism for using aggressive tactics, including tear gas. Ellis, overseeing a lawsuit filed by protesters, issued a temporary order restricting force and requiring federal agents to wear identification and body cameras. Yet, instances of non-compliance have been alleged, as highlighted in ongoing legal proceedings.
