The tense standoff between Vaishya and Gurjar communities in Meerut has concluded with a compromise mediated by senior BJP leaders. The dispute originated from a controversial incident where local BJP member Vikul Chaprana allegedly forced Satyam Rastogi, a cloth trader, to apologize by rubbing his nose on the ground for a parking disagreement. This act was captured on video, sparking outrage across social media platforms and escalating tensions between the two communities.
BJP city president Vivek Rastogi emphasized the importance of the compromise to defuse societal tension. Political figures, including Meerut MP Arun Govil and several state-level leaders, played a pivotal role in reaching the agreement. Both parties consented to a written compromise, opting not to pursue further legal actions.
The police have taken a step back from the compromise, with Senior Sub-Inspector Ajab Singh asserting that the settlement was purely between the involved parties. Nonetheless, action was initiated against the accused after registering a case. Following public scrutiny, the police force saw some reshuffling and suspensions of officers involved, and the BJP suspended Chaprana from its Kisan Morcha.
