India Condemns UN Expert's Claims on Myanmar Refugees
India has strongly contested a UN report's observations about Myanmar refugees, following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, calling it biased and factually incorrect. India maintains that its refugee policy is humane and transparent, despite UN claims of pressure and deportations, stressing its supportive stance on Myanmar's peace process.
India has strongly opposed the UN expert's remarks on Myanmar refugees, branding them as unfounded and biased. Delhi has dismissed the suggestion that refugees from Myanmar are under pressure post the Pahalgam terror attack.
Delivering India’s stance during the UN General Assembly, Indian MP Dilip Saikia sharply criticized the United Nations Special Rapporteur Thomas Andrews for his claims about the situation of human rights in Myanmar. Saikia emphasized that the terror attack had no connection with Myanmar refugees.
Amid allegations of increasing radicalization among displaced people, Saikia reaffirmed India’s commitment to a Myanmar-led peace initiative while rejecting biased portrayal through skewed media narratives. India stresses a transparent and people-centric approach in its ongoing support to Myanmar in light of cross-border humanitarian concerns.
