At least six soldiers, including a Captain, were killed on Wednesday in a devastating IED blast targeting a convoy of security forces in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
The convoy was attacked in the Sultani area of the restive Kurram tribal district, near the Afghan border. During the ensuing gunbattle, seven terrorists were eliminated. A deadly improvised explosive device (IED) subsequently detonated near Dogar, resulting in significant casualties.
The attack underscores a recent surge in terrorist activities targeting police and security forces across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's breach of a ceasefire agreement in 2022. Recent security operations in North Waziristan and Kurram have thwarted further threats, eliminating 25 militants.
