The Delhi High Court has censured Asian News International (ANI) for independently contacting YouTube to block Dynamite News Network's channel, bypassing court protocols. The court dismissed ANI's appeal, reiterating that the news agency acted without judicial consent in its copyright infringement battle.
A division bench, including Justices C Hari Shankar and Om Prakash Shukla, revealed that ANI submitted new URLs to YouTube for blocking, without informing the presiding judge. The court labeled this conduct as 'deprecated' and emphasized procedural adherence.
Despite the March 21 directive unblocking Dynamite's channel, ANI's fresh claims led to a temporary re-blocking, which was then reversed. The bench's verdict highlights the importance of judicial oversight in copyright cases.
