Britain recently deported Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, an Ethiopian asylum seeker convicted of sexual offences. He was mistakenly released from prison, sparking public outrage and protests regarding immigration policies.
Sentenced to 12 months for assaulting a 14-year-old and a woman, Kebatu was mistakenly freed on October 24. After a three-day manhunt, he was recaptured and promptly deported.
Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood expressed regret over the error, while protests related to his crimes highlighted ongoing tensions over immigration in the UK.
