Mysterious Assault: Manipur Village Chief Succumbs to Injuries

A village chief from Manipur's Churachandpur district died after being allegedly attacked by unidentified men, officials reported on Tuesday. The victim, M Haokip, led T Khonomphai village in the Henglep sub-division and was assaulted Monday evening.
Authorities suspect the involvement of the United Kuki National Army, a rebel group that has not signed the Suspension of Operations pact with the central and state governments. Villagers' attempts to rush the 50-year-old Haokip to Churachandpur District Hospital for treatment were in vain as he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Police have launched an investigation from Henglep police station after registering a case. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was returned to the villagers upon completing necessary formalities.
