In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court underscored the importance of harmony between the bench and the bar to ensure the orderly and dignified functioning of court proceedings. This decision was issued by justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta as they modified an earlier order to remove adverse comments and a financial penalty levied against the Uttarakhand State Election Commission.
The court recognized the bona fide apology presented by the Commission’s counsel and highlighted the future expectations for legal decorum. The earlier order had imposed a Rs 2 lakh cost after the commission's plea was dismissed, following a high court decision regarding candidate nominations in Uttarakhand.
The court's modification reflects a commitment to procedural respect and professional courtesy, with assurances from legal leaders, including Supreme Court Bar Association President Vikas Singh, ensuring that such instances are not repeated. This ruling highlights the necessity of balance between advocacy for clients and the court’s directives.
