A woman, returning home with a friend, was allegedly subjected to obscene remarks and subsequent assault when she stood up against the harassment, as reported by the local police.
The alarming episode unfolded late Tuesday night in Chandpara, Gaighata, when a group of men allegedly blocked the women's path and made lewd comments. The situation escalated when the woman protested against the harassment, leading to both women being physically assaulted.
Dr. Suman Saha, the woman's brother, rushed to the scene to aid them but was reportedly attacked by the miscreants armed with iron rods and wooden sticks. Local residents intervened, prompting a police investigation and a search operation to apprehend the suspects, who fled before police arrived.
