Ryan Bodenheimer, a former US F-15E combat pilot and host of the Max Afterburner YouTube channel, commended India's innovative use of advanced decoy systems on Dassault Rafale jets during Operation Sindoor. In an interview with ANI, Bodenheimer described this as a 'genius move' and highlighted a fascinating shift in modern air combat, where the focus isn't solely on pilot maneuvers but also on managing the aircraft's electronic and visual signatures.
Bodenheimer addressed Pakistan's claims of shooting down Indian aircraft, attributing initial misleading visuals to images of drop tanks rather than actual downed aircraft. The X-GUARD, an advanced towed decoy integrated into the Rafale's SPECTRA electronic warfare suite, creates misleading radar signatures, thus serving as effective countermeasures during intense aerial engagements.
He emphasized India's strategic deployment of the X-GUARD system, which confused Pakistani defenses, making them mistakenly lock onto decoys. This tactic, combined with jettisoned drop tanks, contributed to a chaotic radar environment, causing opponents to misinterpret their target hits. Bodenheimer hailed this as a smart application of technology in combat, urging the importance of maintaining battlefield ambiguity.
