At the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Pashtun activist Fazal ur Rehman Afridi levelled serious allegations against the Pakistani military, accusing them of widespread human rights violations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Afridi claimed that military operations and cross-border tensions have exacerbated the plight of civilians, escalating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
According to Afridi, Pakistan's army has conducted thousands of operations in Pashtun territories, leading to a tragic loss of life, enforced disappearances, and mass displacement. He stressed that the security situation has deteriorated due to rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan's Taliban government, with illegal cross-border strikes reportedly causing civilian fatalities.
Afridi also raised alarm over the increasing enforced disappearances of Pashtun and Baloch people, describing it as an ongoing genocide. He called for an international probe into these allegations of human rights abuses and emphasized that the military must be held accountable to restore justice and end impunity.
