Avian Flu Alert: Authorities Intensify Efforts After Outbreak in Hesaraghatta

A confirmed outbreak of the deadly H5N1 avian influenza has struck a poultry training center in Mathkuru village, situated in Hesaraghatta, as reported by the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD). This prompted urgent containment measures by authorities.
The rapid response teams assessed the site on April 16, following the initial notification from NIHSAD on April 14. Since then, the affected zone extends from 0-3 km, and a broader 3-10 km surveillance zone has been established. Thousands of birds have been culled, and the burial site remains off-limits.
The public is advised to exercise caution, avoiding contact with infected birds. Private hospitals are on high alert for related symptoms, ensuring quick case reporting. Health officials stress that thoroughly cooked poultry products remain safe for consumption.
