Meghalaya Launches Nutrition Revolution for Mothers and Newborns

In a bid to boost maternal and newborn health, Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has reviewed plans to revamp the Public Distribution System (PDS) and introduce a new Nutrition Kit Scheme.
During a meeting with Food and Civil Supplies Department officials on Thursday, Sangma emphasized that the initiatives are part of the state's 'Mission 1,000 Days' programme. This programme aims to ensure adequate nutrition and healthcare for mothers and children during the crucial period from conception to a child's second birthday.
The CM highlighted the government's effort to include a broader array of nutritious, locally grown foods through the PDS, promoting not just food security but healthier diets. The Meghalaya Nutrition Kit Scheme is an integral part of this strategy, designed to meet the nutritional needs of expectant mothers and foster healthier newborns.
