West Bengal's seminal health assurance scheme, 'Swasthya Sathi', recently celebrated a pivotal achievement as it surpassed one crore hospitalisations by October 31, as announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This initiative, entirely funded by the state budget, has extended cashless medical treatments valued at Rs 13,156 crore to the people.
Designed to provide comprehensive health coverage, Swasthya Sathi allows any resident of West Bengal not enrolled in other state-funded health schemes to claim its benefits. This scheme exemplifies a drive towards inclusivity, establishing a healthcare safety net for over 8.5 crore residents across the state.
The scheme's success is further attributed to a robust IT framework and timely payments to partnering hospitals, ensuring efficient service delivery for beneficiaries, as highlighted by the Chief Minister. Committed to serving its citizens, the program continues to set a benchmark in regional healthcare services.
