Poland Challenges EU-Mercosur Trade Deal in Court

In a significant move, Poland announced its intentions to file a complaint against the European Union's free trade agreement with Mercosur in the Court of Justice of the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed concerns about the potential adverse effects on Polish farmers.
Critics of the deal argue that it could lead to an increase in imports of cheaper beef, sugar, and poultry, undermining domestic producers. Although the deal is designed to improve market access for European manufacturers, both Poland and France remain vocal critics.
Poland has set a deadline of May 26 to submit the complaint. Meanwhile, the European Commission announced that the trade agreement would start on a provisional basis from May 1. Food security and consumer safety are highlighted as primary concerns by Polish officials.
