Russia Solidifies Support for Cuba Amidst U.S. Tensions

Russia's Foreign Ministry has announced its unwavering support for Cuba, pledging to continue providing humanitarian assistance despite rising tensions with the United States. This comes as Cuba faces severe fuel shortages following US restrictions.

The crisis was triggered after Washington apprehended Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on January 3. In response, the US ceased oil shipments from Venezuela, a key ally of Cuba. This has dramatically impacted the island nation of approximately 11 million residents.

Although U.S. President Donald Trump has warned of imposing punitive tariffs on countries supplying crude to Cuba, an exception was made. A Russian oil shipment, Moscow's first this year, was permitted on humanitarian grounds, reflecting the complex geopolitical dynamics at play.
