Inferno at Tuapse: Containing the Blaze
A fire broke out at the Black Sea Tuapse oil refinery due to Ukrainian drone attacks, causing operations to halt since April 16. The blaze, involving 276 firefighters and 77 vehicles, has been controlled but continues to burn. High atmospheric readings of chemicals have been recorded, urging residents to stay indoors.
A drone attack believed to have originated from Ukraine ignited a blaze at the Black Sea Tuapse oil refinery, Russian officials confirmed on Thursday. Despite extensive efforts from 276 firefighters and the involvement of 77 vehicles, the fire, which ignited after the April 16 assault, continues to burn, though it's now under control.
The general headquarters of the southern Krasnodar region announced the containment of open flames at the Tuapse sea terminal via Telegram, yet noted efforts to completely extinguish the fire persist. Residents in nearby areas have been advised to stay indoors following high atmospheric chemical readings.
The recent Ukrainian attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure coincide with the U.S. redirecting its focus from Russia to Iran, following previously brokered peace talks. Further drone incidents have hit oil infrastructure in Russia, escalating tensions amid ongoing hostilities.
