Vietnam-South Korea Summit: Future of Bilateral Ties
Vietnam's President To Lam is scheduled to meet South Korean counterpart Lee Jae Myung in Hanoi, marking the first such visit since Lam's recent election. Discussions will include potential cooperation agreements and involve Seoul's interest in Vietnam's infrastructure projects. A business delegation from South Korea, including Samsung officials, will accompany Lee.
Vietnam's President To Lam is poised to host South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Hanoi next week, five insiders have revealed. This meeting marks Lee's inaugural visit to Vietnam, following Lam's election as president, a title he holds alongside his leadership role in the Communist Party.
While Lam already initiated high-level engagements such as a recent meeting with China's Xi Jinping in Beijing, the meeting with Lee is currently slated for April 23. The two leaders are expected to sign cooperation agreements, though major decisions on infrastructure projects appear unlikely, sources indicated.
South Korea emerges as Vietnam's major investor, with substantial contributions from Samsung. Despite recent declines in Korean investment pledges, Lee's visit aims to solidify economic ties, possibly announcing corporate deals. Notably, Samsung's ongoing negotiations for a semiconductor facility in Vietnam have seen progress, though final commitments remain pending.
