A convoy of 14 ships en route to India carrying crude oil and gas was intercepted by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC fired upon two of the vessels, causing 13 ships to reroute back to the Persian Gulf, according to official sources.
An Indian-flagged ship, damaged by gunfire from the IRGC, had to return due to a broken window pane, while the extent of damage to the second vessel remains unclear. Despite this, another Indian-flagged ship managed to continue its course towards India, carrying crude for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.
The blockade happened in the waters between Qeshm and Larak islands. Tensions escalated as Iran reinstated control of the Strait, impacting global oil transit amidst a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, threatening to deepen the energy crisis.
