All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Rafiqul Islam has declared support for any Opposition party that triumphs in the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, proposing a coalition against the BJP's rule. Reflecting public sentiment, Islam believes the state's electorate is ready for a change from the current administration.
Highlighting the significant voter turnout, which saw 85.38% participation, Islam emphasized the electorate's desire for change, supported by overwhelming Opposition support, with female participation slightly surpassing that of males. The elections, held on April 9, marked a record-breaking engagement from the electorate.
However, the BJP interprets this as a demonstration of trust in the democratic process and its governance. Citing the vigorous involvement, especially from younger voters, the party contends that these statistics solidify a strong democratic foundation and endorse its leadership as it seeks a third consecutive term.
