Geelong Refinery Fire Hits Petrol Production

Despite a recent fire at the Viva Energy's Geelong refinery, the facility is maintaining the production of 60% of the nation’s petrol and 80% of its diesel and aviation fuel. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese provided this update while visiting the refinery and speaking to company officials.

Pledging future improvements, Albanese expressed hope that output would increase in the coming period. His remarks followed a Wednesday night incident that impacted petrol production at Australia’s largest oil processing facility, putting pressure on the country's fuel supply chain.

The fire incident at the 120,000 barrel-per-day refinery highlights the challenges Australia faces as it navigates fuel supply stability amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
