Kolkata Mayor and senior Trinamool Congress leader Firhad Hakim took charge of the election campaign on Monday, exuding confidence in the ruling party's chances. Hakim highlighted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's deep-seated relationship with the locals, portraying her as a familial figure and predicting unwavering support at the polls.
Despite the entry of AIMIM's President Asaduddin Owaisi into the West Bengal fray, Hakim dismissed any potential impact on the state's political landscape. He labeled the BJP and AIMIM as communal forces, insisting TMC's focus remains on connecting with the people. AIMIM has partnered with Humayun Kabir's Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) for the elections.
The upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, set for two phases on April 23 and April 29, will see significant participation from various parties. AJUP plans to contest in 182 constituencies, with AIMIM participating in about eight seats. The Election Commission of India announced the polling schedule, with results to be declared on May 4.
