The Uncertain Detention of Venezuelan Oil Mogul Ruperti

Venezuelan oil businessman Wilmer Ruperti has been detained by authorities without explanation since Thursday, following a summons by the country's intelligence police for a meeting, according to his legal representation.

Despite assurances of his release throughout the day on Friday, Ruperti remained in custody, leaving his lawyers expressing concern for his well-being. The information ministry has yet to comment on the situation.

Known for close ties with Venezuela's socialist regimes, Ruperti became prominent after aiding the country during the 2002-2003 PDVSA strike. However, recent business disputes involving Maroil Trading and PDVSA, including contract disagreements and payment issues, have cast a shadow over his activities.
