In a significant development for Bhutan's energy sector, Patel Engineering announced on Friday that it has secured a substantial contract worth Rs 230 crore for part of the Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project. This project is a joint venture between Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) of Bhutan and India’s Tata Power Company Limited.
The project, known as Package I, involves pre-construction works, and is hailed as a major leap in Bhutan's hydropower infrastructure. Kavita Shirvaikar, Managing Director, highlighted that this initiative not only cements the company’s foothold in the region but also reinforces Bhutan’s objectives to enhance domestic energy capacity while exporting surplus power to India.
The Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project is touted as the largest of its kind under the Public–Private Partnership model in Bhutan, aiming to secure long-term energy cooperation with neighboring countries. Patel Engineering is also looking to expand its expertise to other hydropower projects in Bhutan and adjacent regions.
