The Patiala House Court has granted interim anticipatory bail to Vikas Chikara, the General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress, in connection with the AI Summit protest case. Chikara, who is considered a conspirator by the Delhi police, has been issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) and is required to join the investigation at the crime branch office tomorrow, according to Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal.
The case is scheduled for further proceedings on March 28, with ASG DP Singh and Advocate Prashant Prakash representing the Delhi police, who have stated no objection to Chikara's plea if he complies with the investigation. Senior advocate Tanvir Ahmed Mir and his team appearing for Chikara confirmed that he would cooperate with the investigation.
Chikara's anticipatory bail plea came after a police reply detailing his involvement in meetings related to the protest, staged by IYC workers at the AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam on February 20. The court had previously granted bail to 15 individuals, including IYC President Uday Bhanu Chib, regarding the same protest. The case continues with Chikara's conditional release pending further investigation.
