India's Drone Dominance: Building a Future-Ready Defense Ecosystem

India must swiftly develop a robust ecosystem for drone manufacturing to enhance its defense capabilities, emphasized Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday. Drawing insights from the Russia-Ukraine and Iran-Israel conflicts, Singh pointed out that drones and their counter-technologies will be pivotal in future warfare scenarios.

He stressed that India should aim to be a global leader in drone manufacturing within the coming years, achieving strategic autonomy and enhancing military prowess. Addressing the National Defence Industries conclave, Singh focused on the requisite self-reliance, particularly in producing every part of the drones domestically, a challenging yet vital goal.

Singh called for greater industry collaboration and introduced the 14th edition of the Defence India Start-up Challenge and the ADITI challenges to promote innovation. These initiatives are designed to facilitate breakthroughs and support start-ups and MSMEs, ensuring that India becomes a powerhouse for indigenous drone production.
