The Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) in Ahmedabad is rapidly becoming a regional leader in oral cancer prevention and care. Guided by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's vision, it implements successful strategies that not only benefit Gujarat but also its neighboring states.
According to a press release, the Gujarat Government's preventive healthcare policy is pivotal in this achievement. The policy prioritizes early detection of pre-malignant diseases, which has led to a rise in early interventions. In 2025, GDCH Ahmedabad identified 3,023 such cases, a notable increase from 2024. This proactive approach alleviates fear among families and reduces the workload on cancer treatment facilities statewide.
The National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), directed by Patel, and GDCH Ahmedabad spearheaded a month-long campaign during 'World Oral Health Month' in 2025. Screening over 12,915 individuals across 33 districts, their efforts included health talks, walkathons, and tobacco cessation drives. These initiatives were bolstered by specialized training for ASHA workers, ensuring vigilant grassroots monitoring.
