Gujarat's Judicial Boost: Special Court for National Security Cases

The Central government has taken a significant step to reinforce the judicial process by establishing a special court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, solely for the trial of cases probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Utilizing its authority under Section 11 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in collaboration with the Gujarat High Court and the state government, designated the Additional Principal Judge at the City Civil Court, Ahmedabad, as the special court on March 17.

The newly designated court will focus exclusively on scheduled offences investigated by the NIA, ensuring expedited and concentrated adjudication of cases related to national security and terrorism. This measure is intended to enhance the judicial mechanism by fostering swift and dedicated attention to serious offences.

The court's jurisdiction will span the entire state of Gujarat, empowering it to handle all NIA cases within the region. The notification emphasizes the government's aim to establish a specialized judicial framework for the swift and effective prosecution of NIA cases, thus strengthening the legal infrastructure for tackling issues of terrorism, national security, and other serious crimes under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008.
