In a decisive move to ensure transparent electoral processes in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India has initiated a sweeping bureaucratic reshuffle. This step, praised by BJP leader Rahul Sinha, aims at dismantling what he describes as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'syndicate' within the state's police force.
Sinha accused Banerjee of installing loyalists in the police to incite communal violence, a charge she denies. He claims the EC's intervention has thwarted any such intentions, replacing officials with those of commendable track records.
Significant appointments include Siddh Nath Gupta as the new Director General of Police and Ajay Kumar Nand as Commissioner of Kolkata Police. The changes are set against the backdrop of the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections, slated for April, to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
